Life Jacket Repairs and Alterations

There's a number of different services and modifications we can perform on your life jacket to keep it in peak operating condition.  Here's some of the items:

Add Impact Material

If you are a Stock or Mod Racer and plan to run any PRO Outboard class (which includes K PRO Hydro and OSY400) it is a safety requirement that your life lifejacket include Impact Material in side the front AND back.  Additionally, APBA Stock Outboard, Modified Outboard and J Categories will require impact material effective November 1, 2007.    SRP can take your existing jacket and add impact material, making it 2008 season-eligible and adding valuable protection.  Along the way, we can clean, recertify and apply any needed TLC to keep your jacket in top condition.

Add Helmet Restraint

In the faster Stock and Mod outboard classes, and in the PRO category, a helmet restraint is not only recommended, it’s just good, common sense.  You can purchase a helmet restraint like this as a standalone item, or, you can have the helmet restraint straps built directly into your lifejacket.  The advantage of a lifejacket helmet restraint is easier control and accessibility of the webbing straps, and some drivers report an improved range of motion with their restrained helmets.  This is just another good way to help protect head and neck travel range.

Re-Covering

So, you’ve had your lifejacket for 6-8 years, it still fits you, but it looks ragged and like you have been working in a coal mine with it.  If the straps, fasteners and flotation are in good order and it just is a cosmetic issue, consider re-covering your jacket.  This is a cost-effective way of getting a jacket that looks like new on the outside and functions well.

Cleaning

We can clean your jacket to make it look as close to new as we can, depending upon its age, how much exposure to sun, etc it has had.

Inspection and Recertification

Re-certification of your lifejacket is recommended every three years.  When your jacket is re-certified, it receives a thorough inspection by SRP to ensure that closures, fasteners, straps, impact material, skid collar, flotation material and outer cover are in proper working order and in top condition.  Potential trouble issues are noted and recommendations for repair or replacement are made, if required.

Zipper Extenders
Referred to by some boat racers as "The Fat Strap" or "The Wedding Band", these add two inches additional girth capacity to any SRP jacket.  Perfect for racers over 40 or kids who grow too fast.
